about the piece.
In the midst of acute grief last winter, I arrived home one evening to this icicle hanging from a bush outside of our garage. The compassionate angel image brought me comfort and hope during a dark and cold time. --Kim.

about the artist.
Kim's infant daughter, Bridget, died from complications of kidney disease in 2009. As Kim has learned to live without her daughter, she has discovered new creative outlets in art, photography, and writing.

Kim talks about Together, "For this piece, I experimented with using two pastels together and really liked the result.  I have trouble separating myself from my daughter—we are forever together, sometimes intersecting and sometimes running in parallel.  This piece helped me define our relationship both before and after her death."

In 2009, Kim’s 16-month old daughter and only child, Bridget, died from complications related to a genetically inherited kidney disease. Kim participates in a local art therapy program for the bereaved and has discovered art as a way to better understand herself, make peace with her grief, and spend time with her daughter.

Kim describes this piece, "I love the tactile aspect of art, especially the energy created by smearing oil pastels into one another.  When I created this piece, I was searching for Bridget—thinking perhaps she was among the stars or in another dimension.  I loved the effect of the white star over an otherwise complete piece."

Kim talks about her piece, "I created this piece shortly before Thanksgiving. I was feeling cheated out of the holiday preparations that were going on all around me and longing for my daughter so that I could show her how to trace her hand and draw turkeys together. I was able to get lost in tracing my own hands over and over again, reaching for her and letting her go."
