the still life 365 project

Art begets art. Creativity begets creativity. That is the philosophy that drove this blog into existence. I have frequently been moved by the different and divergent ways mothers and fathers express their grief through art and writing. My goal is simple: to post a piece of art--writing, painting, photography, crafting, filmmaking, music and anything other creative outlet one can imagine--each day. Art created by men and women who have been affected by miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. Art created through grief and loss. Art created to remember our lost babies. Art created to acknowledge the journey of grief, loss, sadness, glimpses of joy, survival and hope. Art reminding us that through our darkest moments, there may be glimmer of light, or a moment of calm.

There is no right way to grieve just as there is no right way to create art. In this way, this is a place of acceptance.  still life 365 is not here to judge the worthiness of art, or the exceptional aspects of skill, but rather to be a forum to share our work, inspire each other and hopefully, find some common language of grief expression. My hope is that every day the work showcased here can help a bit, give you a new way to look at your loss and grief and truly inspire you to examine grief creatively.

With this in mind, on January 1, 2010, our project begins. Please consider submitting a piece of art you created, or a poem, or anything really that  is about your grief journey. To submit a piece of work or poem, please email me.
