about this piece.
This piece is I guess you would call it digital art. I have to come up with a final project design for my Color Theory class, and this idea struck me like a lightning rod. My ultimate goal for this is to be put on a t-shirt. I wanted to create something for pregnancy and infancy loss that was meaningful, not just a simple awareness ribbon. The tree partially lifeless represents infertility and that the is still hope to conceive again. The sunrise represents a new day being upon us. The awareness ribbon and the earth represent what I have grown to learn in my the last almost 20 months of my grief journey, that this tragic that called pregnancy and infancy loss can happen to anyone all over the world. Then wings are in honor of Shealyn and all babies who were tragically taken from us.

Twenty months later, the fact that my little girl isn't here still stings, but life will still go one weather I want it to or not. Everything I do is in her honor, her memory. --Betty

about the artist.
Betty and her husband went through a year's worth of fertility treatments in 2008. As Betty describes her journey, "In December of that year, we went in for our final IUI. Two weeks later we found out we were pregnant with our first child. In May of 2009, at almost 23 weeks, my body decided it was time and my water broke due to an infection. Shealyn was born on May 17, 2009 at 12:39 AM weighing 1 pound even and 11 1/2 in long." Betty writes about her life and journey at Random Thoughts at 65 MPH.
